President Obama crushed Mitt Romney among young voters last year, beating the former Massachusetts governor 67-30 percent in the 18-29 demographic. According to one analysis, that huge margin made a decisive difference in Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
An analysis by the Center for Research and Information on Civic Learning and Engagement at Tufts University concluded that if Romney had achieved a 50-50 split with Obama in those four states, he would have won them all.
Those numbers were the elephant in the room on Saturday when the Florida Federation of Young Republicans (FFYR) held their winter quarterly meeting inside the Tampa Museum of Art.
"In the presidential (level) and our U.S. Senate race, we failed," Peret Pass, the chair of the Florida Young Republicans," told the approximately 40 people in attendance, referring to Connie Mack's loss to Bill Nelson for U.S. Senator.
"I don't think that what we believe is wrong. I don't think that our message is wrong. It's just the way we package it," Press added.
