14 1/2 hours after he became the next mayor of Tampa, Bob Buckhorn began his first of what will be several meetings with outgoing Mayor Pam Iorio yesterday at City Hall, as the new chief executive for the city realizes that, unlike Barack Obama or Rick Scott, he isn't being given several months to transition to power - more like a week and some change.
While at yesterday's news conference which preceded the Iorio-Buckhorn confab, CL asked Iorio about her endorsement of Buckhorn, and how significant at all she gave to his victory on Tuesday night. She countered that it probably didn't do much - but the question allowed her to unleash a furious (for the mayor) tirade against negative campaigning, and how she believed it backfired in this election.
Did you know that yesterday was the anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act, a/k/a to its critics as "ObamaCare"? Has anyone's opinion changed, pro or con, in the past year about the controversial legislation?
And Governor Scott comes to Tampa early Thursday afternoon, just hours after signing the controversial teacher reform bill known as SB 736.
Florida Senator Bill Nelson, who had Vice President Joe Biden fly in to raise money for him in Tampa yesterday (and what's up with Congress being out of session again this week, with the government about to run out of money again by April 8th? Is there a new holiday I missed?). The Senator also tried to use his influence in that situation with two Greek children who had been living in Largo until recently.
