Thumbs down! Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman will be spending the remainder of the preseason with his thumb in a cast. But all things considered, it's still better than this time last year when it was up his butt. So Josh-number-two (Johnson) will be under center as the starter for Game 3 this weekend against the Jacksonville Jag-offs, which is typically the game that gives the starters the most reps. Lovely. With the franchise QB mothballed, the crowd this Saturday should make the KC turnout look like an IKEA fire sale.
Rays make like a banana. Good pitching, good defense, and good hitting when we needed it was good enough to split the Oakland A's as the Rays head to Anaheim where pitcher "Big Game" James Shields will tie the team record for starts (144), coincidentally against the man he will share the tie with, ex-Ray Scott Kazmir. The Rays still trail the Yank-me's by a single game. But my theory is, it's easier to chase than check the rearview mirror. Hey, I never said it was a well thought out theory.
Storm passes, but got picked. Friday night's ArenaBowl between Tampa Bay and Spokane can be described in one word. A very uncharacteristic word, given the sport. Defense. The Shock forced two turnovers in the first half alone, three total in what would be the difference maker in a 69-57 Storm loss. Don't give up your day job, boys. The joke is that's no joke as most of the players have second jobs. Maybe the Bucs would play better if some of their players spent nights washing dishes instead of passing out at stop-lights. Just sayin.'
