As of last weekend, Riverview has a new coffee shop to call its own.
Foundation Coffee Co. debuted its open-air digs at 10022 Carr Road on Oct. 24. The laid-back spot features outdoor seating on the pup-friendly patio, a drive-through and a 10-foot slow bar, where baristas showcase filtration and extraction methods.
According to its website, Foundation aims "to bring local craft roasters and brewing techniques to the suburbs of Tampa," as well as use coffee, community and outdoors — three words displayed on the patio's shade panels — to create an authentic experience.
The menu lists beverages such as espresso, lattes, Americanos and traditional macchiatos, and the shop also hosts a weekly farmers' market at 4 p.m. Thursdays.
In other caffeine news, downtown St. Pete's Station House announced that Kahwa Coffee and TeBella Tea Company are moving into its second floor, which will function as a coworking and social club level.
• On Wednesday, Urban Provisions, the latest from Urban Brew and BBQ owner Andy Salyards, opened in downtown St. Pete's Grand Central District.
At 2410 Central Ave., the concept — part craft beer bottle shop, part deli — carries a selection of local and out-of-state brews that come in growler, draft and packaged form. Patrons may build their own six-packs from more than 100 of the 200-plus varieties, and even drink their purchases on site.
As for the deli, there are sandwiches with house-cured meats like pastrami, pork loin, turkey breast, ham and bacon alongside accompaniments that include mustard, pickles, German potato salad, sauerkraut, coleslaw and ice cream.
Salyards also has a fourth project, Urban Creamery, in store for a building west of the State Theatre.
• Originally scheduled to debut earlier this year, Osaka Sushi & Thai opened to Seminole at its new location, 13800 Park Blvd., about two weeks ago.
The popular eatery highlights Japanese and Thai entrees and noodles, more than 70 sushi rolls, a variety of bento boxes for lunch, grilled house specialties and way more.
• In case you missed it, the U.K.-based YO! Sushi launched its fourth U.S. location at Tampa's International Plaza on Monday. Business Development Director Alison Vickers joked that YO! likes opening concepts in twos; the brand's second New Jersey restaurant opened this week, too.
The Tampa YO!, specializing in conveyor belt sushi and Japanese-inspired cuisine, offers seating at booths or standing room at the bar. Priced between $3 and $7, color-coded plates revolve around the restaurant on a winding belt for diners, who may also place orders for what they don't see on the rotation. At the end of a meal, servers count dishes to determine how much patrons owe.
"It's a really quick, fresh experience," Vickers said. "And it's fun."
• The Bowled restaurant has returned to St. Petersburg as Bowled Express. Closed in 2013, Bowled now operates inside Bob Lee's Tire Company at 1631 Fourth St. N., offering breakfast and lunch.
Patrons can expect bowls filled with their protein of choice, including the Piccata or Spicy Thai, along with items like breakfast sandwiches and bowls, salads, naan flatbreads and desserts available anytime.
