We recently launched the second edition of Hip Hop ABCs, where we ask readers who consider themselves passionate hip hop fans which emcee or group they feel is the best in the game as driven by the letters of the alphabet. And the polling continues!
Atmosphere couldn’t stand up to the pressure of holding onto the Letter A title they claimed in the inaugural Hip Hop ABCs battle. The crown was claimed by Afrika Bambaataa when we re-opened up the polling to the general CL reading public. The Beastie Boys did not share that same fate and re-asserted their claim of the title of Best Hip Hop Group in the Game beginning with the Letter B.
MCA, Mike D, and Adrock went from performing at birthday parties to founding freedom movements. The very same three dudes who famously proclaimed they would forego sleep until reaching their favorite New York borough can add repeat wins to their more than a half dozen stack of platinum plaques.
All due respect to Busta Rhymes, Big L, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but with 40 million records sold worldwide, it's hard to come close to the Beasties. I guess we got it right the first time.
