Deap Vally

Deap Vally burst onto the scene in 2013 with an album that made my Best Of shortlist that year, Sistrionix, a scuzzily righteous, grrl-sneering Led Zeppelin-channeling mix of garage, blues and heavy metal that introduced us to the explosive hair-thrashing prowess of guitarist/singer Lindsey Troy and drummer/singer Julie Edwards, who (ironically), met at a crochet class and formed Deap Vally in 2011.

Yesterday, the LA duo premiered a video for "Royal Jelly," a brand new guitar-fuzzed single that finds Yeah Yeah Yeah's primary Nick Zinner manning the boards. He produces the entirety of their forthcoming sophomore LP, the title and 2016 release date of which are still TBA, though "Royal Jelly" has me excited with its snarling refrain ("If you want to be queen bee, then you better make honey / if you wanna be miss thang, then you better start hustling") and unique use of whistles and hand-claps that somehow add to the song's overall dissonant, ominous vibe. The video premiere on Noisey came with a rather long, depthy article (read it here) but you can check out the pop-art style video starring Georgia May Jagger (daughter of Mick and Jerry Hall) below. Download the track at deapvally.com.
