Do you know where you were exactly four years ago tonight?
On May 6, 2008 (okay almost four years ago to the date), Radiohead opened up their U.S. tour at was then called the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa. But what I remember was coming home that night and watching coverage of the North Carolina and Indiana presidential primaries.
It was Hillary Clinton's last ditch effort to salvage the nomination, as she was all in to try to win both states. Instead, Obama beat her in North Carolina, and lost a close race in Indiana, prompting the late Tim Russert to declare around midnight on MSNBC that night that the race was over, and that Obama would be the nominee. Which he ultimately was.
For the first time since that night, North Carolina & Indiana hold their primaries in a presidential election year. In the Tar Heel State, voters weigh in on whether they want to ban same sex marriage, even though gay marriage is already banned there.
And in Indiana, 80-year-old six-term Republican U.S. Senator Richard Lugar is looking extremely vulnerable in his bid for re-election tonight against a Tea Party insurgent.
Cl slogged through a 3 1/2 hour budget workshop with HART's board yesterday morning. The upshot? Fewer routes and higher fares will be required to keep Hillsborough's bus system going to keep up with increasing ridership.
And It's questionable whether George LeMieux's web ads attacking Connie Mack are getting him any traction in his attempt to knock off the GOP Senate front-runner, but he keeps on putting them out there, and we keep on posting them.
