Gasparilla Music Festival highlights: Deer Tick, Tortured Soul, Ra Ra Riot + more

Check out all the action Sat., March 10, 2012.

TECH DATA STAGE AT CURTIS HIXON WATERFRONT PARK

Ra Ra Riot (9:15 p.m.)

Cello and violin interplay bring a majestic and classy appeal to Ra Ra Riot's pop-infectious chamber rock, the New York sextet’s sound marked by the high-piping vocals of frontman Wes Miles. A big feel-good way to close out the festival.

Lee Fields & the Expressions (7:15 p.m.)

Vintage-warm funk soul feeling as delivered by a vet of the genre. Read more in the interview here.

Deer Tick (5:15 p.m.)

Rhode Island's indie folk/alt-country rockers Deer Tick took a more raucous and beer-swigging bluesy turn on their fourth LP, Divine Providence, released in October via Partisan Records.

Alvin "Youngblood" Hart (3:45 p.m.)

A raw-voiced singer, songwriter and guitarist regarded as a leading practitioner of acoustic country blues.

Also on the Tech Data Stage: 11:45 a.m. TBD; Mayor Buckhorn kick-off, 12:15 p.m.; The Groves, 12:30 p.m.; The Lee Boys, 2 p.m.

AMSCOT FINANCIAL STAGE AT KILEY GARDENS

Rebirth Brass Band (8:15 p.m.)

A New Orleans funk-jazz staple that's been kicking out the brass-driven jams since '82 and just won their first Grammy for 2011’s Rebirth of New Orleans in the “Best Regional Roots Music Album” category. Live shows get the blood pumping with high-energy Rebirth originals like “We Come to Party” and “(I Feel Like) Busting Loose” mixed with spirituals, rags, and covers of Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye and others.

Tortured Soul (6:30 p.m.)

Sharp-dressed Brooklyn-based Tortured Soul use live instrumentation to craft electro-dance tunes, their '80s retro synths and grooves carrying the velvety smooth, R&B soulful croons of lead singer/drummer John-Christian Urich.

Also on the Amscot Stage: Sunset Bridge, 11:45 a.m.; Infinite Groove Orchestra, 1 p.m.; Kaleigh Baker, 2:15 p.m.; Have Gun, Will Travel, 3:30 p.m.; Spam Allstars, 4:45 p.m.
