After a brief hiatus, Weekly Tune-Up has returned! The last week of February is upon us, and the month proved super kind to music lovers. This past week of new releases just added more icing to an already rather fine cake. Let's take a look at some of the highlights below.
Lovable pop experimenters Animal Collective are back with a follow-up to 2012's Centipede Hz, and fans who've been waiting patiently for some new quirky tunes from the Baltimore four-piece should be pleased by the cheery, off-kilter, high-spirited effort that is Painting With. Pretty much exactly what we've come to expect from Animal Collective, though we've included a more subdued cut, "Golden Girl."
Wild Nothing's new record is finally here, and I'm excited to type that Jack Tatem's third LP is lovely. I've never veered away from my affection towards Wild Nothing, and Life Of Pause will only foster its growth with dreamy guitar riffs, Tatem's heart-on-sleeve lyrics and fine full-album cohesiveness. "Whenever I" splashes some jazzy horns over well-placed pianos and a catchy hook. In sum, Life Of Pause is dream-pop bliss.
Polica just released "Lately," a new single off their forthcoming album United Crushers (out March 4). "Lately" is a swooning tune that has Channy Leaneagh singing over smooth synths and a trap-style beat (Sample verse: "Lately I feel the weight of love. Irreversible damage, but it’s good. I’m good. Seems like we’re too comfortable in love. Seems like this’ll be good for us." Polica also just announced a huge world tour. Unfortunately they won't be coming to Florida unless new dates are added later.
