The abbreviation is ‘PBR,’ so that should give you a good idea of what this indie rock quartet from Virginia has to offer. This is the third time People's Blues of Richmond has stopped through town in the past six months, and all I can say is, “Welcome back!!”
The group — which has opened for artists as diverse as Galactic, Flogging Molly, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Ghostland Observatory, and is currently touring as a foursome — practices an instrument-battering brand of garage n’ blues rock dosed in psychedelia and finished with some funky pounding low-end swagger, muscular keys, crunchy fuzzy guitar riffs interspersed with pedal-warped licks and cleaner piercing solos, the occasional offbeat circus/gypsy digressions, and raspy soulful vocals howled over top of it all.
This tour backs 2013 Kickstarter-funded sophomore LP, Good Time Suicide, and on this latest date, People's Blues of Richmond returns to New World and gets strong support from sludge-grind power trio Florida Night Heat, and groovin' two-piece Oxford Noland. 9 p.m., New World Brewery, Ybor City, $8.
