Interpreting dreams of your shadow self

"Dream Momma, I hope you can help me. Here’s my dream. I was sitting with another man outdoors somewhere. It might have been in the mountains. It was cool and dry. Suddenly I noticed a dark figure to the right in the sky in a dark circle with red eyes that was coming towards us. I asked the man with me if he knew him and he leaned forward and said, “Be careful. He is not finished with you yet.” I asked him what he meant and he said, “You’re in no position to ask any questions.” I woke up and my heart was pounding."

Dear Dreamer, I will do my best. Usually, when we're out in nature, especially in the mountains and there is another man (woman) with us it means that we have met either our inner guide or our shadow self. Another, darker, part of ourselves, that none of us like to admit is there.  (Relax dreamer, we all have one. It's part of the human condition).  In this case you've met both. The good news is that you have met them and are actually in dialogue.  Good for you! That gives you a leg up on most people.

Your dialogue indicates you have some inner work to do, i.e. "he is not finished with you yet," so here is a good exercise (exorcism?) for you. First YOU ARE IN A POSITION TO ASK QUESTIONS, what the hell, it's your life! Right? Right!

The Pregoff Journal exercises have a very cool one.  It is called something like the inner dialogue. In it you write a question and then an answer.  Something like, "What do you want?" Then chill out a few minutes and answer that question as if you are the red eyed entity (after all part of you is). Keep going until you have exhausted all your questions and answers.  Take your time. It doesn't have to be done right away and you may revisit this exercise as long as you need to.

Once you feel a sense of mastery over your shadow you can then tell it to "F off, I have a good life waiting for me."  And you do.
