There are a few things in NPR Music’s clip of Phoebe Bridgers playing “Smoke Signals” that weren’t in her recent performance at Gasparilla Music Festival (GMF).
Interview: Phoebe Bridgers talks Pinegrove, her new LP, dog poop and death with CL
For starters, there’s a drummer (Marshall Vore, who has recorded with Ryan Adams, Korey Dane and Olin & the Moon), who lends bells, extra rhythm and harmony to an already haunting song. There’s also an F-bomb which Bridgers, 22, omitted with a smile when she played GMF.
At least Tampa got sunglasses (see above).
The clip comes from the radio station’s South X Lullaby series, which they recorded last week in Austin. Timmy Thomas (one of many dudes Drake totally owes a lot of credit to), Declan McKenna and A-WA are just three artists who also recorded sessions.

It was also accompanied by a press release promising that news regarding Bridgers’ debut LP (which is ready and waiting for a home) should be announced soon. A tour itinerary says California, Texas, Arizona, Arkansas and Kansas all have chances to see Bridgers again, but the rest of us are going to have to watch the session below.
