Leftovers

Like the Savor Sarasota Restaurant Week at the beginning of summer, Orlando is hosting a Magical Dining Month throughout September. For just $29 at "upscale," or $19 at "casual" participants, you can enjoy a three-course prix-fixe meal in the heart of our nation's playground.

Emeril's Tchoup Chop at Universal is on the list, as are a whole slew of resort restaurants and shopping-district anchors from around Orlando. My recommendations? Emeril's is fine, as is the Plantation Room, but that's about it. Unlike a trip south to Savor Sarasota, the hour drive to Orlando down I-4 probably isn't worth it, at least for the majority of these restaurants. Unless, of course, you're already headed that way for a family getaway. Heck, at these reduced prices, you may even be able to afford tickets to Magic Kingdom or Universal.

Better yet, forgo the Magical Dining and spend your park money on a meal at Norman's at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando. Featuring the cuisine of Miami's Norman Van Aiken, Florida's only real celebrity chef, Norman's is easily one of the best restaurants in Florida.
