Marvelous! Comedy legend Mel Brooks to headline Tampa's Straz Center!

The event includes a screening of Blazing Saddles and intimate talk with the affable director, performer and writer.

"Oh, sweet mystery of life!" At last, he's found us!

If you love to laugh, you love Mel Brooks. He is the the Yoda of comedy — he even paid homage to the sci-fi guru as Yogurt in his 1987 Star Wars spoof Spaceballs.

The affable film director, screenwriter, comedian, actor, producer, composer and songwriter — a young 89 now — will appear at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. The event is a stop off his speaking tour, "Mel Brooks … Back in the Saddle Again!"

Expect Brooks to reminisce about his prolific career, his marriage to late, all-time great actor Anne Bancroft, friend and co-star Dom DeLuise, and his films, naturally, including The ProducersYoung Frankenstein (No. 13 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 funniest American movies) and, of course, Blazing Saddles, which will be presented on the big screen followed by a live conversation and audience Q&A with Brooks.

Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, Aug. 21, and are available online beginning at 10 a.m.; by phone and in person at noon.

Regularly priced tickets are $49-$99. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $300 and include prime seats and a photo-op with Mel Brooks. Tickets may be purchased by calling 813-229-STAR (7827) or online at strazcenter.org. Handling fees will apply.
