Progressive group releases report on why Romney-Ryan budget would hurt Floridians

A liberal think tank recently produced a report detailing why the proposed Romney-Ryan budget will cost Floridians when it comes to health care, taxes and the state's budget.

The Center for American Progress is a Washington D.C. based progressive think tank created in the mid-aughts by John Podesta, President Clinton's former chief-of-staff. The group released specific reports on how the budget would affect seven battleground states, unveiling its Florida study earlier this week in Tallahassee.

The road show continued Thursday at the Letter Carriers Hall in West Tampa, with a presentation by Tom Perriello, a former Democratic Congressman in Virginia and the president of Center for American Progress Action Fund. He was joined by former Florida CFO Alex Sink, acting in the chairwoman role of her own think tank, Florida NEXT.

"I like math, but you don't have to be a math major to know that Gov. Romney seems to be saying whatever he thinks we want to hear," said Sink, introducing the report.

The former (and perhaps future) Democratic gubernatorial candidate read some of the report's statistics, zeroing in on the GOP ticket to "voucherize" Medicare.

"This is personal to me," Sink solemnly said about the Ryan plan, which is being sold as not affecting those under the age of 55. "I resent that. I don't want my 25-year-old daughter to become 70 years old and develop breast cancer like my mother did and hope for a voucher ... this inter-generational warfare is wrong and I think it’s insulting."
