Obama and Biden to appear at University of Tampa on Thursday

Tampa Congresswoman Kathy Castor has announced that President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will appear this Thursday at at town hall event to be held at the Bob Martinez Sports Center on the University of Tampa campus.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.

No details have come forth on what Obama and Biden will be discussing, but speculation has been rampant over the past few days that it will concern Florida's bid to acquire over $2.5 billion in federal stimulus funds for a high-speed rail line.

In a statement, Castor says, “The families and businesses in Tampa will welcome a significant jobs announcement that will surely boost our state’s economy.  I repeatedly have said I would fight for jobs and for economic recovery for families and businesses. Our state is hurting and in need of a significant boost.”

The event is scheduled to be held less than 24 hours after Obama addresses the nation in his first ever State of the Union Address.  With the loss of a Senate seat that had been held in Democratic party hands for over a half century, political analysts are virtually demanding that Obama come up with some new answers in that speech, scheduled for 9 p.m. Wednesday night.  We'll be live-blogging the speech here on The Daily Loaf.
