Creative Pinellas released the lineup of the latest recipients of the 2019 Emerging Artist Grant program.

What makes an artist “emerging,” exactly?

The individual must be early in their career, regardless of age, gaining momentum and may be at a critical juncture of their development.

Each year, Creative Pinellas chooses 10 to be awarded with a grant, a mentor and exhibition.

The 2019 Emerging Artist Grant recipients represent multiple genres and include visual art, literature and music composition:

Painters include Anna Ayres and Jim Gigurtsis - who also specializes in portraiture - and Linda Costa Cheranichit who considers themselves a photographer while integrating some light painting into their works.

Christina Bertsos, George Retkes and Eric Sarbach make up the sculptures - while Javier T. Dones works with metal and mixed media.

Performance artist, Siobhan Roland, works with jazz composition, Lisa Rowan’s artist lens is through literature, and, finally, Laura Spencer creates pieces through illustration.

Emerging Artist grantees must also write regular blogs postings sharing insight to their creative process as well as documentation of new work.

The exhibition and performance of the recipients’ work to be held at the gallery at Creative Pinellas, FKA Gulf Coast Museum of Art, on September 12th, at 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo
