Nelson going to Haiti

The Tampa Tribune is reporting on their Web site this afternoon that Florida Democratic U. S. Senator Bill Nelson is flying down to Haiti early tomorrow morning in an effort to speed up the evacuation of Haitian children for life-saving medical procedures.

Nelson tells the Tribune than than 200 children are eligible for quick passage to the U.S.  He says those kids have injuries that are treatable, but will likely die because of a lack of equipment or supplies.

Of course, any elected official who tries to do good can and will be accused of exploiting the situation for political purposes.  However, that doesn't take some of the racists off the hook who have added their ugly comments to TBO.com's Web site.  Both local dailies have problems with this, but consistently the Tribune readers always never fail to send out some absolute garbage.
