Next Wednesday, Jonathan Boyd will be renting an ice cream truck for the day to hand out over 400 free ice cream cones throughout St. Pete in honor of his 26th birthday. He's calling it Jon's Ice Cream Drive.
The Tampa Bay local is on a mission to raise money for the Birthday Candles for Kids nonprofit charity which throws birthday partied for children in foster care, who otherwise wouldn't have one.
Over the last few weeks, Boyd has been making headlines with his GoFundMe campaign which has far surpassed his initial goal of $400 and has now reached $2,032. These funds have been raised by 89 people in just 22 days.
Boyd's GoFundMe reads, "In a few weeks, I’m going to be turning 26. Usually, I’d be organizing myself a little birthday get together but this time I wanted to do something different. In fact, I wanted to do something pretty amazing!"
The post has caught on like wildfire on social media, and the time has finally come for Boyd to hop on the truck and have one of the largest ice cream socials the 'Burg has ever seen.
