While our fellow Floridians take to social media to gloat about our lovely sunshine to our poor northern neighbors (though admittedly today it's pretty chilly for this reporter's tastes), all that gross snow we're avoiding is impacting us in a more subtle way.
Basically, those uptight families you saw walking along Beach Drive or wherever sporting Patriots hats this weekend are going to be stuck here a while.
Tampa International Airport spokeswoman Emily Nipps said this morning that some 78 flights scheduled to depart or arrive today have been canceled, most of which were bound for northern destinations affected by the blizzard.
"To put it in perspective, the cancelled flights are approximately 18 percent of our total flights (arrivals and departures) scheduled on a typical day in January," Nipps writes.
Nationwide, reports USA Today, more than 7,000 flights have been canceled.
The storm has tracked north, sparing New York City and Philadelphia, instead hammering Boston and other northern areas and affecting 50 million people.
Wind gusts in Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard topped 70 miles per hour, it's predicted that areas outside of Boston are going to see three feet of snow.
