Miles Davis' 90th birthday Celebration Concert with The James Suggs Quintet If you’ve ever experienced a James Suggs tribute concert, you can feel the reverence the locally-based jazz trumpeter has for the artist in question and his dedication to the material he tackles. In conjunction with WUSF’s Miles-a-Palooza (a month-long All Night Jazz-spurred celebration of Miles Davis) and in honor of what would have been the jazz master’s 90th birthday, Tampa Jazz Club hosts a reprise of the Miles Davis tribute that introduced Suggs to the Tampa Bay area two years ago. Suggs along with saxophonist Jeremy Carter, pianist Phil Magallanes, bassist Charlie Silva and drummer Ric Craig performs Davis selections spanning the 1940s to ‘60s, including cuts off the iconic album he produced with John Coltrane: Kind of Blue. Chris Isaak Last year, amid serving as a judge and mentor on The X Factor Australia, vintage rock crooner Chris Isaak recorded a 12th LP, First Comes the Night, in Nashville, with a few of the city’s renowned producers, and released it late last fall. It’s not a country album, per se, but is most definitely imbued with extra twang and spacious rambling drive, while his subject matter continues to focus on damaged people and heartache.
