Now that the Florida State Fair has been rescheduled, for April 22-May 2, the second Deep Fried Dash 5k is set for Saturday, May 1. Registration is open; it’ll cost $35 per participant and includes free admission to the fair after the race.

The 3.1-mile run starts at 7 a.m. and circles the fairgrounds, through the “sights of exhilarating rides to the smells of fresh fair foods.” Probably best not to drink the night before because after the fair food section, participants run by the livestock barns.

At the finish line racers receive a Deep Fried Dash T-shirt, medal, and, best of all, a corn dog.

The 5K is also in need of volunteers, who are rewarded by not only a greater sense of purpose but also a free ticket to the fair.

Proceeds from the run go to the Florida State Fair Foundation whose mission is to “...is to improve and support the Florida State Fair agricultural, scientific, and educational programs.”

Tickets for the Florida State Fair are also currently on sale, with a disclaimer that by purchasing a ticket you agree to follow the fair’s COVID-19 protocols. Some of those protocols include a mask requirement when not eating or drinking, increased hand sanitizer stations and social distancing.
