In 2014, as the 10th and final installment of Summer Jam approached, festival co-founder Joe D’Acunto told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay there was a 0% chance that he was bluffing about closing the door on the party he co-founded with his cohorts DJ and promoter Durium "Deacon" Jones and creative director Michael Delach.

“Sometimes you gotta know when to fold,” D’Acunto explained at the time. Apparently you’ve got to know when to unfold, too, because Summer Jam—which in its time has included four venues, olympic-sized pools, bike races, barbecues and murals—is returning for two nights of live music and community at Crowbar in Ybor City.

“Like everyone, we were forced to face our true self during the industry shutdown. When thinking back about all the concerts & events we had been a part of, Summer Jam was a shining, small part of our history, and we wanted to give it a little dust off,” D’Acunto told CL about the return. “After people not experiencing live music for so long, we wanted to welcome them back into the mix with a good ol’ sweaty summertime tradition.”

So on Aug. 27, Summer Jam welcomes Apathy and Celph Titled (pictured)—co-founders of underground rap supergroup Demigodz—then stays the night to open the doors on Aug. 28 for a stacked bill that includes Miami shred-gaze favorite Palomino Blond, Naples glam-punk outfit Roxx Revolt & the Velvets, unclassifiable rock outfit Mindwash and more.
