New World Brewery’s five-day 26th anniversary celebration kicks off today in Tampa

New World Brewery celebrates 26 turns around the sun this weekend with a five-day run of concerts that kicks off today at the Tampa music venue, bar and restaurant’s new-ish location in Sulphur Springs.

Most of the events are no cover, with two ticketed shows happening in the venue’s music hall on Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday’s free beer garden gig features five songwriters including Liam Bauman who recently got a nod in American Songwriter for his work with another local favorite, Leon Majcen.

DJs—including the revival of the Sunset Sundays crew featuring Creative Loafing Tampa Bay contributor Stephanie Powers—spin for free in the beer garden on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Other free beer garden concerts happening as part of New World’s anniversary weekend include sets by Tampa’s queen of pop Jeremy Gloff, one-man band and cigar-box guitar king Lauris Vidal, folkie Treble Hook and rock songwriter Jsanti.

Ticketed shows in the music hall find BOTB-winning cellist Melissa Grady (pictured) joining Will Quinlan on Friday, plus madman-led rock outfit Holy Terror and Tampa rapper Mike Mass playing Saturday.

In September 2017, after a 22-year-run in Ybor City, New World was forced to shut down its original location and built a new cathedral a few miles up Nebraska Avenue where it opened at 810 Skagway Ave. last spring, just before the coronavirus pandemic shut down venues across the globe. New World is one of several local businesses running under the grassroots, City of Tampa-backed "Safe & Sound" initiative where business owners practice limited-capacity, mask wearing and other COVID-19 precautions.
