South Tampa’s three-week ‘Epic Chef Masters’ competition kicks off on Monday

Proceeds from tickets and a house special at Epicurean benefit Feeding Tampa Bay.

Starting next week, some of Tampa Bay’s best chefs are competing during “Epic Chef Masters” at the Epicurean Hotel.

The competitions happen on the first three Mondays in August, and the chefs won’t just be giving food to judges, but helping put food on tables across the area since the proceeds benefit the nonprofit Feeding Tampa Bay.

“Epic Chef Masters” took 2020 off (thanks, COVID), and returns on Aug. 2 for the first of three battles:

  • Aug. 2 Chef Ferrell Alvarez (Rooster & the Till) v. Chef Michael Buttacavoli (Cena)
  • Aug. 9 Chef Ted Dorsey (The Mill) w. Chef Eric McHugh (Hew Parlor & Chophouse)
  • Aug.16 Chef Marty Blitz (Mise en Place) w. Chef Tyson Grant (Parkshore Grill)

A limited number of in-person seats in the Epicurean Theatre are available at $300 for a pair which includes a coursed meal and wine pairings. The event has a 6:30 p.m. time and can also be watched for free in the hotel lobby, located at 1207 S Howard Ave., or live-streamed via YouTube.

In addition to the competition, the SoHo hotel’s restaurant, Élevage, is running an “Epic Monday” special—house made short rib tortellini—available for purchase during competition weeks (proceeds also benefit Feeding Tampa Bay). 

Feeding Tampa Bay serves 10 counties in its fight against food insecurity and has a goal of a “hunger-free region by 2025.”
