New York City’s Lapêche plays Hooch and Hive in Tampa on Friday Saturday, but before that, the indie-rock outfit is sharing a video for its latest single, “Cool Job,” which singer-guitarist Krista Holly Diem wrote about her husband Dave Diem, who also plays bass in the band.

"There’s the literal ‘getting out’ of town, which is always healing for us individually and as a couple, especially when shit is stressful,” Holly told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay about the cut from Lapêche’s new album, Blood In The Water, out now via Tampa’s own New Granada Records.
“But there is also the metaphorical ‘getting out’ of unhealthy conditions, cultivating presence and vulnerability, not setting up camp in the past, and embracing new things together to be better than we were," Holly explained about the five-minute clip.
And when it comes to getting out of their town and into the American armpit of COVID-19, Holly said Lapêche is both grateful to tour but “super-conflicted” about it.
“We feel the anti-science stance of governors like DeSantis is unacceptable. We need to do all we can to take care of one another. My well-being and yours are interconnected. Tribalism does not serve us," Diem told CL, adding that the band is masked-up, vaxxed-up, and asking everyone else to do the same.
Lapêche will be in good company for its set before headliner Unwed Sailor, though. Promoter Aestheticized (AES) recently laid out its COVID-19 protocol, which says concertgoers at AES shows must present a negative COVID test from 72 hours prior to the show, or proof of vaccination. AES also requires staff at venues where it books shows to be vaxxed, and asks concertgoers to wear a mask while not actively drinking or eating.
Cool job, indeed.
