Comics from every corner of the Tampa Bay scene, get ready to rumble.

There will be regular competitions, tournament brackets, records and stats, but what's happening is not a sporting event. It's the new Tampa Bay Roast League, where stand-up comedians engage in head-to-head battles armed only with their most damning insults. Feelings will be hurt, points will be scored, and champions will be crowned.

These aren't lame internet "yo mama" jokes, either. The insults are original, and nothing is off the table in a roast battle. Things can get very personal and very ugly, though participants mostly take it with a laugh and a nod. Call it good, mean fun.

Comics participating on June 27 include Jander Gray, Jeremy Lamont, Gordon Dixon, Lauren Lance, Chris Coon, Dree Friar, Forrest Beers and Jeff Klein. The host is Kyle Ruse and judges include Johnny B and Cam Bertrand—both Best of the Bay winners who  know all about delivering a dose of devastating cruelty when appropriate, and will help decide who moves on and who goes down in flames.

The tournament is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 27 at The Vortex Bar and Game Room located at 2329 28th St. N in St. Petersburg, where eight comedians will vy for the title. It's free, so you can celebrate the winners and drink the tears of the losers. Or maybe just have a couple beers instead.
