Tampa Bay couple Leigh and Kris Nickens moved back to Tampa Bay in 2020, looked on the ground, and realized the area didn't have enough of something that their Pennsylvania had— pet waste disposal services. And thus Tampa Bay Poo Patrol was born.
Their company will come to your house or commercial property—no matter the size—and pick up your dog’s outside poop. (You're on your own with inside accidents.) “We love our dogs and consider them part of the family, but we understand that most people don’t love the poop scooping part of having a dog,” Kris said in an email chat with Creative Loafing Tampa Bay.
And the Poo Patrol is much more environmentally friendly than dog-owners normally are. “Dog waste is classified in the same category as insecticides, oil and other toxic chemicals, so safe disposal and using environmentally friendly materials is important to us,” Leigh said.
Keeping it professional, the Poo Patrol doesn’t use old Publix bags to pick up the poop. They use a shovel,rake, and containment system “to keep us and our clients safe,” Kris said. They also will notify pet owners if they see a change in their dog’s waste.
The Nickens are the sole employees for now, but Leigh said Poo Patrol does have “a client threshold in mind that will lead to expansion and hiring,” Leigh said.
Once a week visits start at $12 for one dog, with initial or one-time cleanings for $35.
Even if you don’t use the Poo Patrol, you should know “pet waste is not fertilizer.” So pick that shit up.
