Way before Facebook event invites, most folks found out about DIY shows from flyers; some were ransom-note and collage-like, and others were works of art. “We Can’t Help It If We’re From Florida,” which borrows its event name from a 18983 Destroy Records 7-inch comp, celebrates these “love letter(s) dedicated to a punk rock scene that has been underappreciated for decades.”

In addition to hundreds of show handouts, four local “back in the day” bands perform: The Chris Barrows Band (featuring the ex-Pink Lincolns vocalist), Slinky (reunion show for these classic Pinellas County pop-punks), Slap Of Reality (Tampa punk band formed in ‘87, pictured above), and Spanish Needles (with former members of the Ijasics, the Spills, Hopscotch, and Steady State). We Can’t Help It If We’re From Florida: Even Now: a Celebration of Florida Punk Rock Flyer Art w/ The Chris Barrows Band/Slinky/Slap Of Reality/Spanish Needles. Saturday, Nov. 20, 7 p.m. $7. VFW Post 39, St. Petersburg. @brokenthingsfl on Facebook
