On Saturday, the Florida Justice Center (FLJC) will provide free legal services to help people seal and expunge arrests from their records.

The event will be hosted at La Casa Tropical located at 350 1st Ave. N. in St. Petersburg, and will take place from noon- 5p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.

"During the Summer of 2020, I volunteered my services pro-bono to those who were unlawfully arrested while peacefully protesting," Jessenia Rosales, chairperson at FLJC and local lawyer wrote in an event announcement. "Although the charges were dropped, the arrest still remains on your record!"

An arrest on a person's record, even without a conviction, can have serious long-term effects, that could hinder their ability to find employment, housing and pursue higher education.

"If you need help with removing an arrest off your record, (subject to eligibility) come out and see us," Rosales wrote.

Multiple attorneys from FLJC, the Pinellas Latin Bar Association and local attorney Somah Sameni will be giving their time at the event to help out. While the event will focus on sealing and expungement, FLJC's website says that, "anyone with a legal issue will meet with an FLJC attorney or receive a referral to one of our partner organizations."

Buckwheat from WiLD 94.1 is slated to co-host the event with FLJC, along with an array of other sponsors and partners.

This marks the 17th legal clinic FLJC has been involved with this year, including multiple events in South Florida. Rosales says that she would like this event to be the first of many in the Tampa Bay area, and that she hopes to help host them once a month.

For any questions about the event, the FLJC recommends visiting their website.
