After continuous delays, Busch Gardens Tampa’s Iron Gwazi, is set to open March 11 to the general public, with exclusive access for pass members on select dates starting Feb. 11.

As Busch Gardens 10th roller coaster, Iron Gwazi is billed as "America's tallest hybrid roller coaster" and promises an exhilarating experience for those brave enough to endure the 206-foot-tall peak down a 91-degree drop, a dozen airtime moments and a top speed of 76 miles per hour.

The coaster is composed of more than 4,000 feet of steel track, including three inversions.

Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, the coaster finished construction in 2020, but faced an almost two year opening delay due to the pandemic.

Even before its opening, it's been classified as the world’s fastest and steepest hybrid coaster as it is also made of wood, combining the nostalgia aspect of the material and the innovation of a steel roller coaster.

“The incredible anticipation for Iron Gwazi is shared by both our guests and Ambassadors, and we are beyond excited to open this amazing coaster,” Neal Thurman, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Park President, said. “Iron Gwazi diversifies our thrill ride portfolio and is an impressive addition to the Tampa skyline. Combining classic elements of a wooden coaster with a smooth, steel track will provide thrill seekers with an unforgettable experience.”

With a 48-inch height requirement, the ride provides an exciting adventure for nearly every member of the family.

In addition to Iron Gwazi, Busch Gardens also plans to add two new slides, Rapids Racer and Wahoo Remix, to its lineup at Adventure Island. The slides will open this spring.

For exclusive access to Iron Gwazi, guests can go online to get more information on exclusive Pass Member previews. Those without a pass will have to wait until March to experience this thrilling and highly anticipated ride.
