Amatuer and Pro tourneys at the iconic Skatepark of Tampa (SPoT) are always a rite of passage for any young, partygoing Tampeño (skateboarder or not), and this weekend the 28th iteration of Tampa Pro—set for Thursday-Sunday, April 29-May 1—happens in East Tampa.

Registration and open practice kicks off today at noon, and things get going tonight with skate trivia at The Bricks in Ybor City, plus a comedy set from Thrasher magazine favorite Taylor Clark.

Skating, including an open tourney for team managers and retired pros goes down Friday, April 29 (yes there is free beer), but the big to-do on Tampa Pro weekend happens at The Bricks—located at 1327 E 7th Ave.—where skateboarding legend Steve Caballero brings his pop-punk band Urethane for a no-cover Friday show. The outfit features members of The Bombpops and Odd Man Out, and put out its debut single, "Gravity," last summer, followed by its first LP, Chasing Horizons, in September.

Caballero & co. do it again on Saturday after the competition, but right there at SPoT where a concrete jam is set to take place, too. It's $10 to get into the Saturday party, but there is an open bar.
Finals are on Sunday if your liver can take it. More information is at skateparkoftampa.com.
