Tampa's favorite reason to cry on the dance floor made another turn around the sun, and since the last two years have more or less put the kibosh on their anniversary parties, the Emo Night Tampa chaps are staging a two-day celebration this weekend.

It starts on Friday, June 3 with an old-fashioned dance party at downtown Tampa’s favorite dive, The Hub. A whole bunch of Crate Brothers’ best buds (including me) will take turns selecting tunes at the no-cover getdown.
Emo Night Tampa’s two-day anniversary party, complete with an Asian-fusion pop-up, wraps at Crowbar in Ybor City on Saturday, June 4 with a free concert headlined by Michael Cera Palin, which is neither a Canadian actor or almost-Canadian gun nut who is running in a special election for Alaska’s at-large House seat.

The Atlanta outfit returned from a hiatus in 2020, bringing back with it a brand of Midwestern emo math-rock that’s also for fans of the Front Bottoms and Mom Jeans.  We’ve got our fingers crossed for Michael Cera Palin’s cover of Sheryl Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy,” but will be happy just to be in the room with the band, along with Daytona “adult contemporary emo-punk” band Virginity and local favorites opening the show.
