Although it’s not Tampa’s OG hot dog eating contest—as Ybor City's Crowbar is in its 16th year of hosting its annual hot dog party—Armature Works’ 4th of July party is set to be a banger.
Fireworks and boat parades aside, the main draw of this holiday celebration is a hot dog eating contest that takes place on the Armature Works’ Riverfront Stage, located at 1910 N Ola Ave.
Its participants will compete to see how many hot dogs they can scarf down in 5 minutes. Tickets to participate run for $25 each, and slots are first come, first serve. Only 25 people are allowed to compete, so if you think you're the #1 gobbler in Tampa Bay, sign up ASAP.
The first place winner will take home a flashy championship belt and a $500 Armature Works gift card, while second and third place will receive a $100 gift card. And if you don't place in the top three, at least you get a complimentary T-shirt and all of the gourmet glizzies you can eat.
All hot dogs will be provided by Armature Works' own Butcher n' Barbecue, a hearty American restaurant that boasts a menu full of grass-fed, house-smoked meats.
The hot dog eating competition is only a small sliver of the Heights District’s 4th of July celebration, which includes a boat parade, displays of American-inspired art and a fireworks show overlooking downtown Tampa.
