A chance to own a piece of Florida pirate history is now on the market along the Gulf Coast.
Black's Island, accessible only by boat or helicopter, sits in the middle of St. Joseph Bay near Cape San Blas and is named after the "wealthiest pirate in record history," Black Sam Bellamy. The island's owners claim the famous pirate inhabited the island from 1715-1717, reports WJHG.
The seven-acre private island features 26 charming bungalows, a main club house, a pool, several docks, and access to over 3,700 feet of shoreline. And now, one of the rare handful of bungalows is up for grabs.
This 1,425-square-foot bungalow was built in 2008, and comes with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well a round design that makes them slightly more resilient to hurricane force winds.
The elevated, round-shaped bungalows were built by North Carolina-based company Deltec, and in 2018 they were tested by Hurricane Michael. However, thanks to radial flooring, roof trusses, and impact-resistant windows, the island's prefab homes survived virtually unscathed.
"Deltec’s round homes are designed to work with nature, rather than against it,"says the company's website. "While nothing can be 100 percent completely hurricane-proof, our track record speaks for itself. If you’re in a coastal area, our hurricane-resistant design will perform far better than conventional construction."
The bungalow is currently asking $1.6 million, and the listing company is Corcoran Reverie.
