For the first time in decades, Tampa Bay's historic Indian Springs, and the estimated 1 million gallons of water it pumps per day, is for sale.
Located at 14775 Pine Dr. in Largo, the 1.4-acre lot comes with a 1,180-square-foot home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a two-car garage and a "porch with a view," says the listing.
But the best feature here is undoubtedly the third magnitude spring, which features a 30-foot-wide limestone bottom pond that flows off the property and into the nearby Intercoastal Waterway.
According to a 2001 article from the St. Petersburg Times, the owners considered selling the water rights to a bottler, but the plan never came into fruition.
Freshwater springs in general are rare, so having one on your property is even more rare.
Florida only has around 700 springs, collectively delivering nearly 8 billion gallons of fresh, near 70-degree water to the surface every single day. And they come in all sizes, from 1 to 8 magnitude, with 1 magnitude springs (like Weeki Wachee) putting out at least 64 million gallons of water daily, and 8 magnitude springs classified to just a small trickle.
