A rare private island that's completely self-sufficient is once again for sale in Florida.
Located at 99 Ocean E, in the Florida Keys, the home sits on what's called "East Sister Rock Island," which is actually about a quarter mile from Marathon, and, as you can see, it's only accessible by boat or helicopter.

According to a 2012 article from the Associated Press, the island was literally "built" back in the 1970s, before stricter environmental laws, for a New Jersey gastroenterologist named Klaus Meckler.

The concrete poured home sits on 75 pillars drilled directly into the coral rock, and sits on a 15-foot high plateau of rock dredged from the bottom.

The house has had some notable guests over the years, reports the publication, including actress Delta Burke, about 19 Cuban refugees in a banana boat, and Hurricane Wilma in 2005, which ripped its roof off.

Today, the 2,304-square-foot home comes with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a detached guest house, a pool, a helicopter pad, a dock, a backup battery system, a  whole house generator, as well as wind and solar power systems,  plus a 15,000 gallon freshwater cistern and its own desalination plant, says the listing.

The home has also recently been used as a vacation rental, with rates starting at around $1,500 per night.

This isn't the first time this island has been for sale. East Sister Rock Island has been on and off the market for decades, but its current asking price of $16,499,999 is by far the highest price tag the 1.4-acre rock has ever seen.

The listing agent is Wesley Williford of Frank Taylor Real Estate.
