Everything we saw at last weekend’s ‘Fancy Women Bike Ride’ in downtown Tampa

Sunday was World Car-Free Day, and some Fancy Women rode through downtown Tampa to do their part. The group joined others from around the world who’ve been organizing the ride for 9 years, starting with the first Fancy Women Bike Ride in Turkey where Sema Gür wanted to challenge the male-dominated cycling world in her home country.

“The event is organized by women who are enthusiastic about convincing their peers to cycle every day. Organizers want to create awareness to increase safety on roads, create urban cycling infrastructure and plan bike-friendly services,” a release says. This year’s Tampa ride looped around Perry Harvey Sr. Park, Ybor City and downtown.—Ray Roa
