After a smaller debut in Ybor City last fall, filmmakers Lynn Marvin Dingfelder and Larry Wiezycki brought their documentary "La Gaceta The Documentary: 100 years and 3 Generations Behind America’s Only Trilingual Newspaper” to the Tampa Theatre, which opened four years after the first issue of La Gaceta hit the streets of Ybor City.
Much like the pages of the paper itself, last Saturday's screening included politicians of the past (Betty Castor), present (Bill Carlson, Guido Maniscalco, Harry Cohen) and perhaps future (Hoyt Prindle) among the attendees along with other local politicos, journalists and proud Tampeños all gathered to toast the Manteiga family's ongoing legacy running one of the country's most revered newspapers.
The documentary will soon be archived in the Library of Congress and is in the vetting process for multiple film festivals across the country.
