Protesters gather in St. Petersburg in the name of Daunte Wright

On April 11, 20-year-old Daunte Wright was negligently killed by a Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter when she mistook her gun for her taser. Potter is now charged with second-degree manslaughter, but Wright leaves behind his nearly 2-year-old son and a community still reeling from the murder of George Floyd 11 miles away.

In St. Petersburg last Friday—more than 1,600 miles from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota—protesters gathered outside city hall to demand not just accountability, but a fundamental change to policing, and then took their argument to downtown streets and sidewalks.—Ray Roa
