Renown local architect James J. Jennewein was behind some of Tampa's most recognizable buildings, and now his award-winning midcentury modern home is now on the market in Sunset Park.

Located at 4710 W Clear Ave., the home was designed and built by Jennewein in 1962 for a cost of about $20,500, and at the time it was just the second to built on this street, according to a 1982 feature in Tampa Tribune.

"A house should be something for the individual," said Jennewein to the publication. "It should not be stamped out like they are today."

Over the years, Jennewein and his firm would be known for quite a few unique and iconic Tampa area homes and buildings, including  what would later be known as the David A. Straz Performing Arts Center, Tampa's John F. Germany Public Library, the TECO corporate headquarters, the parking garage at Tampa International Airport, and other major projects.

Before his death in 2020, Jennewein served as president of the State Board of Architecture in 1972, and was elected a fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1988, according to his obituary.

Now, his lifelong home is on the market. The 2,790-square-foot estate comes with five bedrooms and three bathrooms, an enclosed dining area made with African benge wood, a pool, tropical landscaping, and more.

According to the listing, the home is a fixer-upper and  "will require extensive renovation to restore it to its original beauty and historic significance."

The current asking price for the Jennewein House is $849,000, and the listing agent is
Vince Pennino of Coldwell Banker.
