The St. Petersburg Opera Company has announced four, free, outdoor pop-up concerts set for Sunday, Aug. 9.

The 30-minute performances will happen on a float and feature highlights from the Georges Bizet opera “Carmen” as well as Ruggero Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci”, Giuseppe Verdi’s “A Masked Ball” and more.

The roving nature of the one-day outdoor concert series is supposed to allow many groups of people to watch the show while social distancing.

“The coronavirus shut us down completely for the short term,’' Mark Sforzini, the company’s artistic director, wrote in a press release. “For operas and orchestras, it’s been devastating. So, we’re now trying to do things virtually and outdoors where we can keep our performers and audiences safe."

While the performances are free, donations are accepted.

All performances are open to the public. See the full schedule below:

  • 5 p.m.—Westminster Suncoast 1095 Pinellas Point Dr. S. (Gather north of the property on 66th Ave. S.)
  • 6 p.m.—St. Pete Side Lot 2133 2nd Ave. S.
  • 7 p.m.—Museum of Fine Arts 255 Beach Dr. NE. (Gather on the grassy, shaded lawn north of the building)
