Behold, Monkey Shoulder has its own jumbo cocktail shaker — on four wheels. Did you catch the monster cruising around town this week? It kinda reminds us of the Hendrick's Gin Grand Garnisher, which dropped by our offices last year.

The "Monkey Mixer," as Monkey Shoulder's machine is known, was performing the Beyoncé of party tricks with the Mixed Up Monkey cocktail. The signature drink gets poured directly from the 27-foot-long, 13-foot-tall, 8-foot-wide contraption, which has a cement truck-style design for a reason. Hint: It's because the Monkey Mixer can hold an impressive 2,400 gallons of liquid.

Over the past few days, the shaker journeyed from St. Petersburg to Land O' Lakes to Seminole, making Tampa its final stop locally on Thursday, Nov. 15. The Monkey Mixer parked outside of a swanky cigar bar, Davidoff of Geneva, where it moved in constant rotation throughout the evening. Whisky enthusiasts gathered 'round to score samples of the blended malt Scotch that is Monkey Shoulder, as did this CL reporter (the weather couldn't have dropped to a cool 60 degrees at a better time). Inside at the extensive DoG bar, we were also able to taste Batch 27 of the whisky.

Monkey Shoulder Brand Ambassador Vance Henderson checked in with me to share the Monkey Mixer's origin story.

"The nationwide tour began in February of this year, when the Monkey Mixer made its debut at the Arizona Cocktail Week… It has that wow factor that makes everyone stop, stare and come up to enjoy a refreshing Monkey Shoulder cocktail," Henderson said.

In fact, the shaker has been such a hit that a second was constructed. Monkey Mixer No. 2 is traveling across the West Coast, spreading the Scotch gospel in the most carnival-esque way possible. Now that the original Andre-the-Giant-size machine's Tampa Bay run is over, it's off to Orlando before finishing the last leg of the tour in Miami.

But one more thing: Davidoff of Geneva is a more refined place to grab a drink, sure. However, according to Henderson, Monkey Shoulder encourages imbibers to embrace cheeky unpretentiousness — hence the recipe for Mixed Up Monkey below — and that's a good thing.
