A new exhibit at the Dalí Museum showcases never-before-displayed photos, films, and objects exploring the surrealist’s delve into the field of dance. Dali, Dance + Beyond includes the ballets Bacchanale, Mad Tristan, and Gala, and the opera La dama spagnola e il cavaliero roman (“The Spanish lady and the Roman knights”), for which he not only designed the sets, clothing, and props but wrote the librettos, chose the music, and collaborated on the choreography.

More than 45 images, books, and other printed materials “reveal not only an insufficiently documented period of Dalí’s artistic production, but also shed new light on how Dalí’s ideas — and Surrealism — evolved during this period.” (Pictured: Ludmilla Tcherina and Germinal Casado in Gala, 1962, from the Archives de la Monnaie, Brussels, Belgium.
