“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” fans can meet the author, check their voter registration and hopefully not get the cheese touch in St. Petersburg on June 18.
As a fundraiser for Democratic Congressional candidate Brandt Robinson, “Wimpy Kid” author Jeff Kinney will hang out with fans (old enough to vote) at the Coliseum after the two have a live conversation about creativity, education, and civic engagement.
Kinney endorsed Robinson for the Florida House District 13 seat occupied and recently redistricted in favor of incumbent Republican Anna Paulina Luna.
First published in 2007, “Wimpy Kid”—which centers around the life of its middle-school narrator Greg Heffley who feels like the whole world is against him—has sold hundreds of millions of copies worldwide.
Robinson—a former history teacher—is known, in part, for saying he would use ICE funds to hire teachers and refusing to accept PAC money.
According to federal campaign data, Robinson has raised $60,000 towards his campaign, in comparison to his Democratic opponents in the Aug. 18 primary, Earle Ford and Leela Gray, who have each raised roughly $500,000.
Ahead of the general election on Nov. 3, Luna has raised over $2 million.
