Eckerd College presents their 12th Annual Environmental Film Fest which is a week long event, beginning today, showcasing compelling and important films in order to raise awareness and promote discussion of questions relating to nature, place, and the environment.
Two of the films presented feature the work of Eckerd alumni, Dennis Mader (68) and Karl Stanley (97). The Phosphate Dilemma, playing on Sunday, chronicles Mader's work with his group 3PR (People for Protecting Peace River) and highlights the irreversible environmental and economic destruction that follows phosphate mining in southern Florida. Under the Sea A View From Below, showing on Monday, follows Stanley in the trials and tribulations of building two groundbreaking deep-sea submersibles to aid him in pursuing his desire to explore the planet's "final frontier".
