Roots founder and local musician Jun Bustamante is at it again.
Kicking off tomorrow at 6 p.m. is "An Awakening Roots Festival": three days of free live entertainment (and more) at Sacred Grounds Coffee House in Tampa.
The first Roots event was six years ago, and was created to be "a free space where community becomes engaged through art, music and sharing," Bustamante said.
Since then there's been more than 10 Roots events. Last month's Roots Plant and Seed Swap at St. Pete's Cafe Bohemia was a hit, and Bustamante decided to put another one in motion right away.
During the course of the weekend, guests can catch more than 15 music acts, including performances by Geri X, Rebekah Pulley, Bustamante, Las Solitarias, and Ngaire Young (click here for the full lineup).
Other festivities include spoken word by acclaimed local poet and actress Aleshea Harris; comedy by Robin Savage, Robin Stinson, Long Island Mary, Ken Spivey and Aniria Wilson; an energy workshop; a seed and plant swap; and available goods from local vendors. A portion of the vendors' proceeds and Sacred Grounds' sales go toward the Disaster Relief Fundraiser for Japan.
If you're passionate about your community and supporting local artists and businesses, and you want to get to know your neighbor while kicking it to live jams, then An Awakening Festival is the place to be.
