Got a case of the Mondays? Congratulations, you must still have a job. Welcome to Bill's Sports Binge, where I skim through millions of megabytes for the latest local and national sports stories that catch my caffeinated eyeballs, condense and compact them with Cliff's Notes efficiency, throw in a pinch of personal opinion, and cram them into your brain in less time it takes to finish your morning constitution. Now let's get started, you're already out of personal days and it's June.
Of all the Ray's wins, this one was by far the most…recent
If you're only going to win one, you may as well win the last one. Our beloved, yet sphincter-clenching Rays managed to avoid a Texas-size sweep by the Rangers Sunday by clobbering them 9-5 in front of 26,932 masochistic Texans in 100 flop-sweating degrees. The hero? The 2003 12th round draft pick John Jaso with 3 hits, including a two-run homer and 5 RBIs. The surprise? The struggling Carlos Pena with 2 hits including a dinger of his own. No surprise? Dioner Navarro who can't hit his weight if he went on the Atkins diet. The Rays are still 2 games over the damn Yankees and 4 over the Red Saax who lost to (snicker) the 16-41 Baltimore Orioles Sunday. How 'bout them apples?
Oh, and the MLB draft is this evening at 7pm. The Rays have 3 of the first 42 picks. It's like the NFL Draft if you've never heard of most of the players.
The Glazers should run for congress
As the World Cup approaches, the Bucs/United owned Glazer family find it even harder to get anyone to sign their yearbooks. According to a BBC report, the family's already infamous debt is actually 570 million smackeroos greater than previously known. Apparently they borrowed a few bucks against some shopping malls they own. So to break it down, that's a b-b-billion in debt to Manchester United, 95 million in the red for our Buccaneers, and 570 mil over the cap to JC Penney and the Sunglass Hut. And I can't sleep if I owe my buddy 20 bucks. Unless I'm drunk. Why am I still typing?
