The Tampa Bay Lightning went into Toronto hoping to snap a two-game losing streak. They also hoped they would get to witness the return of star forward Simon Gagne. One ended up contributing to the other, as the Lightning rallied to beat the Maple Leafs in overtime, 4-3, courtesy of Gagne's game-winner.

The Maple Leafs struck first in this one, when Kris Versteeg scored his seventh goal of the year to put the home team up 1-0. They thought they had scored again just before the end of the period, but it was waived off when Clarke MacArthur was ruled to have interfered with Lightning goaltender Dan Ellis. Replays showed that the call was correct, as McArthur was in the crease and preventing Ellis from coming out to play the shot.
