Bombs Away At The Bay — boxing returns to St. Pete this weekend

The event will feature 11 professional fights in the Grand Bay Ballroom at the hotel, normally a hall reserved for elegant weddings and convention meetings. The fight card also will include an 8-round main event featuring Clarence "The Truth" Booth, a native of St. Petersburg and two female bouts that are typically known in the boxing circles to be explosive and energetic.

The event is the brainchild of Joey Orduna and Todd Fitzgerald, who thought the city of St. Pete needed to revive big time boxing events in the area, considering how many quality boxers have trained locally and gone on to win on the professional circuit. Along with Kristian D'An and Austin Piazza, the duo formed Mad Integrity Fight Sports earlier this year and quickly went to work to bring a legitimate fight card to St. Petersburg.

"Hopefully, we can bring boxing back to a respectable level in the area," Fitzgerald said. "We saw how the sport had given way to (mixed-martial arts) and we wanted to do something for the local boxing community, especially the fighters who work so hard in this area."

For example, Lacy, who graduated from Gibbs High School, trained in local gyms and went on to have an illustrious career as a professional, earning titles with these respected organizations, all in the Super Middleweight division; WBC, NABA, USBA, IBF, IBO, respectively. Lacy is semi-retired, but One Punch Boxing Promotions just recently announced the signing of Lacy to a professional contract.

The Grand Bay Ballroom will provide 5 fully stocked bars and a concession stand and a live DJ from Suite Six who will provide the entertainment. Doors open promptly at 7pm with the first bout starting at 8pm. Tickets start at $30 for General Admission and up to $75 for VIP seating, which includes table service by the cocktail staff!
